Erosion

Mainly a flat territory, the commune of Bushat experiences erosion in the field, hill and mountainous parts. In the hill area, erosion is encountered in the parts traversed by 46 torrents which run down from the mountains. Erosion in this case is due to soil being washed off by the heavy and intensive rainfall which characterizes this area. Torrential streaks of water move away considerable amounts of the active layers of soil and carry it off to the drainage canals. The damage is accentuated due to the blockage of Zefjana canals with solid waste. These canals are intended for drainage in winter and irrigation in the summer. Projects have been designed, complete with bill of quantities and cost estimations, to curb these high waters through additional damns and additional third level canals, but funding for these projects have not been secured yet. Damage and erosion of the land has been caused by the Drin River flooding the village of Ashtė repeatedly. There is no assessment of soil lost to erosion, by the filling of first, second and third level canals is due to this phenomenon without any doubt.
