There are a number of agricultural specialists in the Commune of Bushat who partly engage in providing advice on issues of farming. In general, advisory services have been reduced continually due to a shortage of both financial and human resources. At various points in time, efforts were made to revive such services. Initially, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, through its Regional Directorates, started to encourage local experts to provide advisory services for farmers. However, as funds started to shrink, so did the interest of specialists involved. The Commune of Bushat today has 38 agronomists, 11 veterinarians, 9 zoo technicians, 27 economists with higher education and residence in the commune. However, only 32 % are involved in advisory services and continue to make their contribution to the development of the area. They mostly, provide technical assistance for special problems of farming and stockbreeding. There is also a fraction of these specialists who have established their own farms and a fraction who are employed to look after other’s people’s crops and animals. The opening of a secondary faming school in Bushat would contribute to the sustainability of local capacities in the longer term.
